When
visiting a foreign country on our own, we often get a bit stuck in the cities.
If we don’t really know the country, it is hard to choose a place to visit for
a day in order to get away from the concrete jungle. This is why going on an
organized tour is a great idea, especially if the tour takes you into the heart
of Alpine mountains, where everything is green and fresh, especially if you
visit gorgeous mountain lakes where you can even take a swim.
Sounds
great, right? So, hop on a tour that will take you to Kranjska Gora, a famous
ski resort in the winter and an idyllic hiking destination in the summer.
Zelenci is
the name of the greenest lake you will ever see. The colour of the water is
actually described as an emerald green or blue-green. A magical feature of this
lake is its water, which is so transparent you can see the lake’s white bottom.
This is also where our longest river, Sava, comes to the surface and brings sulphur
with it, creating small water jets on the surface of the lake. As it is home to
some rare plants and endangered species, the area is protected as a natural
reserve. You cannot swim in this lake, but you can walk on the wooden walkways
and climb up the observation tower to wow at the spectacular view and shoot
some photos.
You can
also grab a cup of coffee here. Then hit the road again and head towards
Kranjska Gora. It is surrounded with magnificent mountain peaks, which will
either evoke an admiration for nature and its beauty or some kind of fear.
Either way, the mountains attract many hiking lovers, who stay in the area for
days to hike in the hills and forests. Just a short walk from the city centre
another beautiful lake, called Jasna, can be found. This lake is man-made. It
was created by connecting two artificial lakes of the two springs Velika in
Mala Pišnica. Here you can refresh
yourself by swimming in a fresh, mountain cold water. Finish your trip by
tasting the traditional food at a local restaurant.
